Mt. Holly man injured in ATV crash

MOUNT HOLLY, Vt. - A Vermont man has suffered a fractured leg after his all-terrain vehicle struck a guardrail in Mount Holly.
Vermont State Police say 24-year-old Tyler Joannette of Mount Holly was taken to a hospital Sunday evening for treatment of a compound fracture to his lower right leg and bruises.
Authorities say Joannette was riding his ATV at a high rate of speed around 6:10 p.m. when he tried to go through an intersection. They say his brakes weren't functioning fully and as he tried to slow the ATV it began sliding on loose gravel and going sideways. He eventually struck some guardrails.
State police say alcohol and speed contributed to the crash. Joannette, who was not wearing a helmet, has been cited for driving under the influence.
