Community Event, Aug 4: The Surprising Nature of Lake Ninevah

The Surprising Nature of Lake Ninevah
 FREE
Saturday, August 4
2:30 to 4:00PM
Mount Holly School

What surprises did nature have in store when Vermont ecologist Brett Engstrom surveyed Lake Ninevah and the 3,300 acres of conserved land surrounding it? Find out when Brett discusses his remarkable two-year inventory of the ecological resources of the Lake Ninevah area.

This will be the first public presentation of his fascinating findings. Join us after the Mount Holly Community Guild Bazaar!
Light refreshments will be served.

The event, hosted by the Ninevah Foundation, will also celebrate the joining of forces with the Farm & Wilderness Foundation in service of stewarding the environment and educating young people. Representatives of both organizations will be on hand to answer questions and to hear feedback from the Mount Holly community about conserving Lake Ninevah and its surroundings.

Democratic Gubernatorial Candidates Debate Issues in Ludlow

Democratic Gubernatorial Candidates Debate Issues in Ludlow

The four Democratic party primary candidates seeking the party's nomination for Governor participated in a Candidates' forum in the Heald Auditorium in Ludlow Town Hall recently.  The forum, moderated by James Alic and sponsored by FOLA, addressed questions covering property taxes, educational funding, minimum wages, gun laws, and the lack of civility in political debates.  Assisting Alic were Jacalyn Diesenhouse, acting as timer, and Kevin Kuntz, who handled audience questions, which were numerous and pointed.  The candidates are pictured above.  From left to right, they are James Ehlers, Christine Hallquist, Brenda Siegel, and Ethan Sonneborn. The proram was video recorded by Okemo Valley TV for statewide distribution. The Primary Election is Tuesday, April 14; absentee ballots are available at the Town clerk's office prior to that date.

Ludlow Rotary's Duck Race to Support Ludlow PTG

Ludlow Rotary's Duck Race to Support Ludlow PTG

The Ludlow Rotary has selected the Ludlow Elementary PTG to be the beneficiary of this year's Ralph D. Hogancamp Memorial Duck Race!

This year's race will be Saturday, August 4th at 12pm and begin at Depot Street Bridge.  The duckies will travel along the Black River to Walker bridge. Prizes awarded to the first three ducklings across the finish line and the last little duck will also receive a cash prize.  Ducks are $5.00 each or a quack pack of 5 duckies for $20.00.  Pictured above is Rotarian Tom Harris as he shepherds some of the ducks down the Black River last year.

Ludlow Rotarians and PTG members will be selling tickets, especially quack tickets (you get five ducks for the price of four)!   Please reach out to Melissa, Courtney, Jenn or Kristen if you can help the PTG! Email them at Ludlowptg@gmail.com

All proceeds will go to support Ludlow PTG's Winter Sports program!

Does your child benefit from the Winter Sports program?  Did you learn how to ski in elementary school through the winter program at Okemo?  Ludlow PTG fundraises every year to ensure a wonderful experience for our elementary kids. Please consider helping the PTG by donating your time for the Rotary Duck Race or by buying a quack pack.

Tickets can be bought at Ludlow Insurance, Benson's Chevrolet, Fletcher Memorial Library or Sotheby's Ludlow for tickets! Tickets will also be available at the Ludlow Farmers Market!

Summer Reading Program Cancellations & Updates

Due to the lack of a working bathroom or running water in the building the Mount Holly Town Library will be cancelling the Summer Reading Program events that were to be held on July 17th and July 24th.  THE EVENT ON JULY 31st WILL STILL TAKE PLACE and will be an all ages family show for the whole community.

We are still offering a self directed program where children in grades K-6 can earn prizes for reading books this summer. As a grand prize we will be raffling off 4 free passes to the state fair (4 winners). If you haven't signed up already please stop by the library to pick up a packet and reading log.

Here is how it works:

1. Record the title and author of the books you read (or are read to you) in your reading log.

2. After you have read 3 books bring your log to the library to have it stamped, get a small prize and put your name in the drawing for a FREE PASS TO THE STATE FAIR!

3. Repeat Step 2 as many times as you can before August 6th! The more you read the more times your name goes in the drawing for the free State Fair Passes!

4. The drawing for the State Fair Passes will be held on August 7th and the winners will be notified by email.
