Lamoine native wins Northern New England boxing title

Lamoine native Jayson Richter captured the Northern New England Golden Gloves novice welterweight title last weekend in Burlington, Vt., with a unanimous decision over Ian McCleod of Burlington.
Richter, a member of the Portland Boxing Club, pursued McCleod from the opening bell and earned a clear-cut decision, according to release on the club’s website.
Three other Portland Boxing Club members won titles as Casey Kramlich captured the light welterweight open class for his third straight crown by beating Brandon Berry of West Forks; Juan Lopez won the featherweight open division with a unanimous decision over Josh Bickford of Mt. Holly, Vt.; and featherweight Liz Leddy beat Amber Blumenfeld of Claremont, N.H., in the women’s open class.
The title winners advanced to the New England championships, which were being held over the weekend in Lowell, Mass.
Richter advanced to the Northern New England finals with two hard-fought wins, beating Anthony Collins of Lewiston and John Haley of Burlington, Vt.
Richter is a former U.S. Marine who is now premed student at the University of Southern Maine.
