CONCORD, N.H. -
A former Vermont school teacher accused of murdering his girlfriend, has died in jail.

Prosecutors say 60-year old Barry Winters poured gasoline on 57-year old Evelyn Spodnik's body and lit her on fire last June. The two lived in Wentworth, New Hampshire.

Up until late December, Winters had remained in a Boston hospital recovering from self-inflicted burns he received trying to light himself on fire at the time of the incident.

Winters was then imprisoned at the Grafton County House of Corrections. The New Hampshire Attorney General says he died Saturday from what appear to be complications from his burn injuries.

Winters was a teacher at Black River high school in Ludlow. Evelyn Spodnik was an elementary teacher in Holderness, New Hampshire.
