CONSERVATION GROUP TO VIEW BIRDS IN CAVENDISH

Cavendish, Vt., April 17, 2014

The Cavendish Community and Conservation Association members invite everyone to join in a nature walk on Sunday May 3rd at 7:30 a.m. with George Clark of the Audubon Society. He will look for our local feathered neighbors as they settle in for a summer of raising their young and will point out migratory species as they pass through our area.

George Clark is a retired biology teacher from the University of Connecticut. He is the coordinator of and contributing author to the second atlas of the Breeding Birds of Vermont. He is a member of the Vermont statewide birds records committee and on the steering committee of the Mascoma chapter of the Audubon Society in New Hampshire. He is the study leader for an Introduction to Birding course in Dartmouth’s continuing Education program this year.

The walk will begin at Crow’s Bakery on Depot Street in Proctorsville. It will take a few hours and be relatively easy, mostly following back roads but with some side ventures into pastures and fields. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes and binoculars are a plus, but not necessary.

May is the best time to see migrating birds. By June they have calmed down and are busy nesting. Mr. Clark will point out the different habitats and what birds are apt to be nesting there. With careful observation you should be able to see a variety of local birds.
