Witnesses are calling it a miracle after an elderly couple made it out alive as a fire destroyed their Mt. Holly home.
Valerie Calevero's says it sounded like a bomb went off when flames filled the sky over her neighborhood Monday night.
"I was in my kitchen and I heard this big huge boom and it rattled my whole house. It was the biggest explosion I have ever heard," said Calevero.
When Calevero drove down the street to a house off Route 103 in Mt. Holly she was stunned by what she found.
"The house was just going up in flames, it was just engulfed, engulfed," said Calevero.
Witnesses say the fire broke out just before 8 p.m. They tell WCAX that first responders were on the scene in just minutes and that crews from multiple agencies turned out to tackle the flames.
"Two water trucks pulled up as I was trying to leave and they were pulling up and they were saying where are we getting the water from, where are we getting the water from," said Calvero.
Calevero hoped no one was inside fearful that surviving a scene like this would be impossible.
"I just hope that they were not there and that it exploded with no one inside, because it is going to be terrible if they are in that house,' said Calevero.
Again fire officials say the homeowners made it out without any injuries. Crews are still on the scene.
